The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Office Gift

The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Office Gift The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Office Gift Purchasing a present for somebody you dont realize well can be dubious. A present for somebody you work with? That can be REALLY dubious. There are unreasonably numerous approaches to coincidentally affront somebody with a blessing. However numerous work environments have occasion blessing trades. Regardless of whether its Secret Santa, White Elephant or Yankee Swap, here is a definitive manual for choosing the ideal present that wont affront. Awful Gift Ideas Probably the most ideal approaches to choose the correct blessing is to deliberately consider what makes an inappropriate blessing. Here are some blessing plans to maintain a strategic distance from. Strict Theres a valid justification its more secure to state Happy Holidays than Merry Christmas. You truly have no clue about who observes Christmas or some other yearly occasion. So as opposed to distance somebody in the workplace, avoid blessings that identify with anything strict. Alcohol In spite of the fact that it might appear to go connected at the hip with the special seasons, its consistently unsafe to give alcohol. Everybody has explicit tastes with regards to alcohol and not every person drinks. Besides it very well may be a hostile blessing in the event that somebody doesnt drink. Avoid the alcohol presents for the workplace. Muffles Despite the fact that the muffle blessing can work in some office occasion settings, it tends to be something of a hazard, as well. Maybe you dont realize the individual just as you might suspect. An entertaining muffle blessing will worthy motivation them to scratch their head. Likewise, choke endowments may leave some inclination let down as others get authentic blessings, and they just got a muffle. The entertaining blessing probably won't be ideal. Re-blessing Put on the map by the mark producer on Seinfeld, the re-blessing is the most terrible blessing you can offer somebody at an office occasion party. For the most part in light of the fact that the re-blessing can be distinguished so without any problem. Who might truly purchase a collaborator a remedial footbath? Safe blessing thoughts These are sure things that practically any associate would adore. Gift vouchers Many think the gift voucher is a cop-out blessing you give when you dont need to really think about a blessing thought. Be that as it may, with colleagues the gift voucher is a superb blessing. It gives you need to give a decent blessing and yet are happy to concede you dont realize what's best for them. Its really an insightful and reasonable blessing. Fun About the best blessing you can give is something that is entertaining. Large astonishment, isn't that so? Blessing = fun. However, time and again we overlook that is the reason for giving a blessing. So as opposed to the exhausting shoe socks or occasion tie, consider giving a tabletop game, film passes or an incredible book. Odds are, in the event that you face the challenge and go for a blessing you see as fun, the beneficiary will feel a similar way. Devices Numerous things at a store like The Sharper Image or Brookstone are protected to give individuals. In any case, the key here is that its really flawless. Heads up: These blessings can be dangerous if the individual being referred to as of now claims the device or the device is scandalous.

Technology alone wont solve the productivity puzzle - Viewpoint - careers advice blog Viewpoint careers advice blog

Technology alone won’t solve the productivity puzzle - Viewpoint - careers advice blog Ask what keeps many business leaders, politicians and economists awake at night these days and productivity, or lack of it, is likely to be high up there. The economic downturn, during which we have seen productivity growth slow across most developed economies, has only increased these bouts of insomnia for many of us. So what’s behind this stagnation? In my own experience, the trick to boosting productivity lies in creating a symbiotic relationship between your people and the tools and technology you provide them with to best do their jobs. Providing talent with the right tools, in particular giving them the right technology and training to be even more effective at their jobs, is critical if you want to win in the productivity game. This is something I’m passionate about, but all too often I see businesses do only one half of this equation well. You need both. Here in my own company at Hays, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art front office and back-end technology, but we’ve also implemented new productivity-focused training programmes designed to equip managers and consultants with the skills and understanding to help them assess teams, harness data and better plan their time. This has led to a steady increase in productivity and supports the success of our business. However, none of this would have been achieved without the power of our people behind it. After all, implementing all the latest technology and putting in all the training in the world will do nothing to boost productivity without inspired and driven employees. One complements the other. But without the focus and drive from the top and right through the organisation to create this complementary fit, organisations often fail. So where do you start? Establish a collective vision Technology and training can be replicated by your competitors, but your people can’t â€" they are your key differentiator. It’s important to understand that your most important asset can’t just be plugged in, pointed in the right direction and expected to be productive. They must be made to feel part of what you are trying to achieve in order to perform at their best. I find it very worrying that a 142-country study by Gallup a few years ago showed that only 13% of employees are engaged at work. Many of us have experienced first-hand the detrimental impact that disengaged employees can have on a business. It’s cancerous and it’s certainly not productive. I’m a firm believer in encouraging my people to shape their roles and most importantly, take ownership of what they do and how they do it.  This ultimately helps employees see the connection between their day-to-day  work, and the larger vision  of your business. It creates a cycle of productive behaviour. And that’s the key â€" employees must feel they are part of something. Employees need to feel inspired and see the bigger picture of what you, as a team and a business are trying to achieve. It’s not just the Board of Directors that needs to know where the business is trying to get to and how that jigsaw fits together. Everyone needs to know. Over the years I have seen how those who share the same vision, who feel they are part of my business’ on-going strategy and are on a joint pathway to success with me, are those that will always give my business more and their best. Give your people focus But unlocking the human potential to drive productivity doesn’t guarantee success. I also believe you need to strike the right balance between boundaries, freedom, and trust. You need to have clear targets, boundaries and expectations in place to boost productivity within an organisation. But I also see how many of my clients and partners across different sectors are combining this with giving people space and freedom to think, and that is also key to harnessing a productive workforce. Large numbers of organisations suffer from having too many ‘yes’ men and women. It’s all too easy to take orders and steamroll through to-do lists, but I see time and time again that the most effective teams and organisations are those which are given the space to think about, and challenge constructively, the latest strategy, plan or new product, not just deliver it blindly. As a result, they are able to clinically identify and focus on those tasks which drive the most value for the business. This ultimately makes for a more energised, effective and productive workforce. If you then give this sort of team the tools and technology to get things done faster and better, you are more likely to win. Of course, investing in technology and training will have an impact on productivity if those investments are done well, and that’s something I’m hugely passionate about, but it’s only half the answer. Going back to my earlier point, technology and training can be replicated by your competitors, but your people can’t â€" they are your key differentiator. Never ever lose sight of that. I believe that inspired, focused and talented employees who harness the power of technology, are the solution to the productivity puzzle. So, put the same amount of investment into your people as you do into your technology and you will reap the rewards. After all, you can’t have one without the other. How to prepare for a bilingual interview - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

How to prepare for a bilingual interview - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach If you are proficient in at least one foreign language, then you have a clear competitive advantage in the job market. Studies have shown that bilingual people have an annual income that is $10,000 higher than those who only speak English. However, when you compete against others with the same qualities, things tend to get a bit more complicated. Your language skills alone won’t help you stand out from other candidates. So, how can you impress the recruiters during a bilingual job interview? Well, the first thing you need to do is to make sure you are familiar with the steps for a regular interview. Even if this is a bilingual interview, the structure is usually similar. So, it can be very helpful to know what to expect. However, there are a few things that differentiate a bilingual interview from a regular one. Here’s what you need to know to prepare for one: Do Your Homework Take the time to research the company and the recruiter if you know who will be interviewing you. You should know what the company does, who its target audience is, the markets they operate in, and everything that might help you understand your role in the organization. Another important aspect you need to determine is if you should learn some business-specific terms or if the bilingual job you are applying for is customer oriented. Researching the company and the job position can help you understand their expectation better. That way, you can determine if you should use a certain style of speaking or practice a particular dialect. Keep in mind that your research shouldn’t begin when you score an interview and end once the evaluation is over. You should actively look for job offers that suit not only your skills but your personality too. For example, there are plenty of companies looking to place talent like you in the right place. Whether you speak German, French, Spanish, Japanese or any other language, there will always be room for you on the market. You just need to know how to find it. Prepare Yourself Practice makes perfect. Once you know what their expectations are, try to evaluate your skills. Take a refresher course or study on your own. Listen to speeches, music, and debates in that language. Try to put yourself in any situations that require you to practice. You can talk online with native speaker, or you can read books or go to stores/restaurants where you know you can find others who speak your secondary language. Make a List One useful tip is making a list of questions that the recruiters usually ask during bilingual interviews. That way, you won’t be taken by surprise when they ask you to describe what you would do in a certain situation, for instance. Make sure you rehearse your answers so that when the moment comes, you have a clear understanding of the points you want to get across. Don’t Forget to Follow-up After the Interview Don’t assume that your job is done after the interview is over. Instead of just sitting and waiting for an answer from the company, be proactive and send them a follow-up e-mail. Not only that it’s a sign of professionalism and responsibility, but it also shows the recruiters that you are really interested in the job. Being bilingual can be a real boost for your career. However, just because you speak a foreign language doesn’t necessarily mean that people will automatically hire you. Keep these tips in mind if you want to impress recruiters during your next bilingual interview.
